To me, it looks like an RV 6 not a Thorp. If it is a Throp it's a highly modified version, it has a horizontal stabilizer and elevator instead of a stabilator, a rounded turtle deck, RV wheel pants and the rudder is different. Just my opinion I could be wrong.

Yes, I wondered about that but the wing seems to be a Thorp wing.

Looks like an RV ? Mustang ? ??? Why land in the water ? Probably wanted a seaplane rating ! 8) BOOM ! I had my turn in the "Dilbert Dunker" and once was enough ! ::)

Airshow in Italy- RV 7 & RV 8 did a midair. RV 8 lost a wing (& the pilot).

Definitely an RV, and it doesn't look at all like a Thorp wing. OK... I just saw the previous post - RV-7.

Here is a vid with a frontal view of the ditching. The damage on the port wing is pretty bad and makes it look a little cranked from the side. He was definitely the "other" plane in the mid air. I'm amazed this guy survived to ditch as well as he did. Check out his prop. Formation ain't for sissies!!

Not that I like to keep the morbidity alive, but here is another vid of the mid air........it shows the RV-8 inverted during the pass, and rolling into the 7. The RV site also has a pic just before impact that is pretty crazy.
