So-Cal Thorp Fly-In on DEC 5 & 6 at the Rosamond Skypark (L00)

Oct, Nov and Dec are our best flying months. Low winds and cool temps so come one, come all. There are some new T-18s from the So-Cal area that are planning on attending and rumor has it my folks, Howard and Elaine, will be coming from Central Arizona in their Sky Scooter.

Saturday DEC 5th Fly-IN:
Arrive whenever. We’ll meet some new T-18ers and catch up with the others. We'll do some flying before and/or after lunch. Since some are only in for the day we’ll shoot for lunch at 1300 at El Indio Mexican Cantina on the field (we think it's good food but it's probably not KVIS Gloria & Missy great food). That will allow more flying afterwards and allow the day-trippers to get home before sunset at 5pm.

For those staying, we’ll stoke up the BBQ and burn something or order up some pizzas. We’ll do Dinner around the fire pit and let the stories begin. There’s also horseshoes & darts that may need some throwin’. There are no rental cars in our one-exit town but between my cars and others we’ll get you to/from your hotels.

Sunday DEC 6th Fly-Out:
Arrive whenever. Donuts/Coffee on the patio. Depart at 1000 for Santa Paula’s “1st Sunday Open Hangar Day” – it’s only 53 nm away. KSZP has a great event and some of the pertiest antiques in existence. We can have lunch and then walk the rows or visa versa. When we’ve had our fill we’ll probably depart for L00 or to your home fields.

For those new to my place at Rosamond Skypark: roll off the L00 runway and taxi east to the end of the black asphalt. Mine is the white hangar with green trim on the North side of the taxiway (tennis court on the hangar ramp). If you taxi onto the concrete taxiway you’ve gone too far. (Google Earth 3636 Felsite Ave, Rosamond CA for situational awareness.)

Hope to see you there!!

If some unexpected freakish winds pop up (like at our last formation flying event) then we'll gladly pick you up at Fox Field (KWJF) in Lancaster or at Mojave Air & Space Port (MMHV).

This is a re-post from another thread. Previous responses in the AFFIRMATIVE from that thread, phone or text include:

Capt’n Rich
Fraser (in the lead for the Long Distance Award)
Cubes “if I can get off work” Grahn
Dixie-Fried Lou
Dan, Ira & Dean – the KVIS 3 Amigos
Tom Jones - just broke in his 180hp O-320
Brian Maisler - Newest Scaled Composites Test Pilot owns a T-18
Phil & Erin Hambrick – Newbies
Scott Jones
Elaine & Howard in the Sky Scooter

If we get the word out I'll bet we can get 20 Thorps!! Hoping to see the T-18s from Fallbrook, Corona, Redlands and more.

Fly safe -- see you there.
Tony

Quick update on the December 5-6 Thorp So Cal Fly In at L00 (Rosamond, CA):

1. Joe Biviano will be bringing his T-18 that he got from builder Gus Gordon. Joe’s passenger will be … wait for it … Gus himself.
2. Glad to hear that Chris & Brent Schultz (the Corona Outlaws) will be there on Saturday.
3. Erin Hambrick (who bought Howard Ginn’s shiny Thorp) got her T-18 endorsement 3 wks ago!
4. Tom Jones will bring the newest “Thorp Spouse” since he recently proposed to his gal, Avalon. Pictures are of Tom & Avalon at the Ginn Oktoberfest and flying off Tom's wing.
5. Bill Jennings is on the airfield and is making good progress on his T-18 refurbishment. New panel is nearly done and the old paint is being stripped.
6. Barring bad weather we have 17 Thorps currently RSVPed. I hope they all can make it. Good thing December is one of our best flying months.
7. I had visitors this weekend from Alaska (who own a 160hp SuperCruiser on 31” bush wheels). We played hard so I didn’t get a chance to go see the owner of the Devonshire Hotel about a group discount. When I saw him in passing a week ago he said he’d be happy to provide a group discount. I’ll see him soon and then post the info for those that want to stay the night.
8. Help spread the word to others who may not monitor the website.
9. R.I.P. Dave Eby. Thank you for your service to our Great Country and the Thorp community.

Fly safe, - Tony Ginn (questions? 661-810-8565)

For those who will RON (remain over-night) Friday and/or Saturday:
The Devonshire Hotel in Rosamond, CA will give the T-18 Group a $10 discount on the room rate. That brings it down to $65.99/nite. Their number is 661-256-3454.

Cheers to Fraser for not procrastinating on getting SWEW (she who eye worship) and his room booked. I had to ask him what SWEW meant. I refer to my Better Half as SWMBO (she who must be obeyed). So from myself and the girls below -- CHEERS!!

Tony

PS: Check out the grin on the chap on the right -- that's my neighbor and I don't think he's grinning about his beautiful Pitts S-2B!!

PSS: If Chuck from Maine comes out I'll get the frauleins to serve us beer on Saturday nite!

OK...I booked the Presidential Suite at the Devonshire with Ashi . ??? She did not know of the T18 $10 discount , so I told her to add the $10 to Fraser's room tab . My room is directly above Fraser's . ;D
