Ahh..."I see" said the blind man! I switched to that style nut a long time ago on my wheels. What I'm curious about now is why they specify a lower torque value compared to the AN365 nut. In my experience the all metal lock nuts have a higher "running torque" than the nylon lock nuts. The running torque is added to the specified torque to get your torque wrench setting of course. Regardless of that, it seems like the actual torque required to pre-load the bolts (the same bolts that have been used forever on these wheels) would still be the same - the bolts are the same. Maybe they decided after all these decades that those bolts & nuts were tighter than they need to be? Type your answer up & send it to me.

About 35 years ago I ground the edge of a socket to a thin wall for this very reason. I still have it. Used it a couple of weeks ago when I put shiny new disks on.

I use two Craftsman 1/4" drive sockets and ratchets out of the box, no modifications

I use snap on socket, no clearance issues
