I'm about to mount a new ELT.

Are there any particularly clever installs out there or strong opinions about what to do or not to do?

I installed mine under the co-pilots seat and put the remote test/reset /on/off module on the far left side of the instrument panel in my field of view . ::) Under the seat makes it fairly easy to remove to install new D cell batteries . I would have to look at the paperwork , but I believe there is only "one direction" you can install it so it will activate during a hard landings !! BOOM !! :o

Mine has a Pointer 3000 ELT. It was mounted to the control tunnel top, just aft of the seat backs.
Not a good place. Every time I reach back into the baggage area, I have to be careful not to touch it. Switches, coax antenna wire, portable antenna are all exposed to damage.

I mounted mine underneath the top skin just behind the copilots seat (top forward right side of baggage compartment). A little harder to access here, but doesn't steal any room from the baggage or underseat areas. Also not subject to inadvertently bumping it. The remote is on the panel.

Mine's same as Bernie's, but on the pilot's side. I believe that the majority of Thorps have them located there. The antenna comes up through a grommet in the turtle-deck, so it is under the canopy.

I have an ACK E-04 406 MHz unit mounted under the turtle deck behind the aft baggage bulkhead, the antenna is mounted just in front of the vertical stab and the remote is on the panel just right of center. I like Bernie's location better than mine, I have to remove 22 screws to get through the baggage compartment bulkhead.
