I have been in contact with Neil Glazer, owner of Pilot Mall here at SUN 'n FUN on KLAL, and he is willing to match Aircraft Spruce's priice on the Revere Personal Flotation Device (PFD) for our Bahamas trip. The beauty of this is we can pick them up during the fly-in and not have to pay shipping or hazmat charges. I need to know how many are interested so he has them in stock when we need them. PM me by the middle of March if you are considering Neil's offer.

If you are buying elsewhere, make sure the devise does not automatically deploy upon contct with water. Also, I have been told the the belt style can get hung up inthe seat belts.

If any of you on the trip are interested we can make the cheap black vinyl N numbers 12" tall which is about 6' long for $50 per plane. I can bring them with me and we can apply them in Florida. They may require a little effort with a heat gun to remove but I imagine that if they are only on for a couple of weeks they won't come off too bad. David

Note on a replacement pilot certificate, I ordered mine Feb 21 and it arrived in the mail today 2-27 with the magic words "english proficent" on the back, wah hooooooo. I now have all the pieces of paper required for the aircraft, the renewed passports still have another week or so. Now I'm praying for good weather between here and Lakeland. Working on flight plans A, B and C which means we will probably end up using plan D

I would be nice to know by the middle of the month so we make sure we don't run short on material. One set for Bob noted. My cylinders shipped today so if they get here tomorrow I can start reassembling over the weekend.

The major take away for me was to bring cash, the FBOs in the out islands don't take credit cards and Bahamian customs is cash only.

One other note: 12" N numbers are required both ways through the ADIZ not just on return.

The closer we get to the date the more excited I get.

Technically correct, but no one on the Bahamas side gives a hoot .. and I there not any ADIZ/N-Number police patrolling the coast.

I was told that the 12" numbers are a FAA requirement and the Customs people don't enforce FAA rules.

Only the guy in the F-16 cares when he pulls up on your wing for an ID. BTW, he can fly down to about 90 kts.

Reminder to Bahamas fliers. Check your insurance policy to insure you are covered for the trip. Also check with your cell service for international use. Mine was a one-time notification with Verizon.

Hey Gents,

My wife and I returned from the Bahamas last month. My AOE into the country was North Eleuthera and the only item I was asked for was my pilots license. However, upon return to the States I checked in with customs at Fort Pierce and they asked for my pilots license AND my medical. So, check those medical cards!

I just completed a trial eAPIS Form. It takes a while, but is pretty straight forward. The best part is it saves your info so you don't have to type it in again. You can even file a manifest for practice. For our trip, the nearest customs point is KTPA, Tampa, FL. You will need this to file the manifest. I recommend you do this so we don't have to rush. The most important thing you will get out of this exercise is your Sender ID. This is a one time issue and will be used each time you log in. The web site to do all this is: https://eapis.cbp.dhs.gov. Don't forget to add your significant other as "Crew" not passenger. You can leave the second form of identification blank where it asks for Pilot's License.
