That sucks....???....literally - I assume you made sure and zero'd out the pump before hand? Once the 2 T-18 drivers based there read this, Fred might just get "Cubed and Spanked".

Well...Fred better not drift in front of my cross hairs (weapons switch is off...until cleared in hot) [}:)] ! There may be something you can do (assuming it was reset to zero, before pumping). Here in the Land of Fruits and Nuts, each pump/scale has an inspection sticker on it with a date it was inspected and contact number. You pay taxes for this govt. agency, I would ( assuming NV has the same agency...weights and measures), give them a gentle jingle on the buzz line and ask for a recount/inspection of the pumps. That is all....

If you have four bays in the outter wing wet, they will hold 16 gals. each. If only three, they will hold 12 gal.

Reminds me of a funny story ...

Years ago Wendell Green was topping his airplane off. Both wings are placarded at 12 gallons. He filled up both and guess what ... he put 32 gallons in. The very same situation occurred, airport manager got involved accuracy of the pumps was questioned, I got a call etc.

Well ... as Bob points out ... they hold 16 not 12 ... guess Dad's math was a bit faulty (which shocked me at the time, he was very much an engineer).

Hey Tanker Ted. I assume this means you zipped off back home and PTV is no longer protected from the fire setting folks?
I have not had any issues with the fuel island at VGT. As was stated earlier, you may want to empty those tanks and refill elsewhere to see what the real poop is. You prolly can learn how many bays are full just by doing a little tap test.
Lemme know if I need to re-attack.

HI CUBES;
I DO HAVE FOUR BAYS ON MY WING TANKS AND HAVE NOT FILLED UP SINCE I RETURNED TO PTV. WILL DOUBLE CHECK TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE EMPTY BEFORE FILLING THEM. I SEEN YOUR BIRD HERE ON THE RAMP THE OTHER DAY AND MISSED YOU WHEN YOU LEFT. HEARD NYOU GOT YOUR ENGINE. LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING IN ON THE NEW BIRD; FLY SAFE;;

MISSED YOU HERE IN PTV THE OTHER DAY. JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I FINALLY GOT MY AUX TANKS EMPTY AND REFILLED THEM HERE IN PTV AND THEY DO HOLD 16 GAL EACH. I HAVE CALLED FRED AT NORTH LAS VEGAS AND LEFT WORD FOR HIM TO CALL ME AS THEIR PUMPS READ CORRECTLLY. HAVE MIKE CALL ME THE NEXT TIME YOUR IN TOWN AND I'LL COME OUT. FLY SAFE;

Was wondering if you were around. Things seem quiet as far as fire fighting is concerned - good thing. I will be back sometime in August. Don't know when. I HAD A GREAT 10 DAYS OR SO. Spent 2 days with Mike and Frankie. Flew out on Monday to TPA where I had lunch with Bill Williams and Bob Highly. Flew to SAN on Tuesday. Had lunch with Rich Brazell and saw his awesome plane (not project - CAUSE IT SHOULD BE FLYING!!) Went up to SLC and spent the night with Frase and his awesome family. It reminded me how fortunate I am to be a part of this great Thorp community.

A friend of mine has an aux. power unit from a B29. Does anyone know of anybody that might be interested in it. It runs and does what it is supposed to do. It was manufactured by the Lawrance Engine Company, in New Jersey.

Hello, I just bought a t18 with standard fuel tank 29gal. It has a engine driven fuel pump and a electric back up. My question is dose it even need a fuel pump. The engine is a 0320B2B 160HP LYC. Thanks Jack

John Thorp never called out a fuel pump for the Thorp. There are numerous Thorps flying without fuel pumps. This has been an on going discussion for years, Fuel pump or No fuel pump. I for one will not fly a Thorp without a pump.

To pump or not to pump...that is the question. This is again one of those issues that gets beat up every year or so. [}:)] You will find countless articles in the past News Letters and on the Thorplist archives on this subject. Some will live by the KISS principle (no pumps) and others like Bill and I will use pumps. What ever floats your boat and gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling and keeps you out of the weeds ! [:p]

It's been discussed many times, but the fact is that if you don't need a pump because of fuel injection, wing tanks, etc., and providing you plumb the fuel system correctly & vent it correctly, it will run just fine with gravity system only - even the O-360s. This has been proven on many Thorps for thousands of hours. If you have a properly carbureted engine & the standard 29 gal.tank there's no need for a pump, unless you just feel the need to add more weight & complexity/failure modes.
