Hey Lee...

So, if I park on the flight / show line, where would I be able to camp? Home Built Camping? Somewhere else?

You can camp in an open area in Homebuilt camping, in Camp Scholler or hook up with Dave Read and I and camp with is across from Paul's Woods.

Maybe someone can help me figure out what sign I'm to use to request parking on the Flightline... I'm a rookie and don't see "Flightline" amongst the parking signs in the Notam.

I guess this will all come together...

The signs are called out on page two (2) of the NOTAM, you want Homebuilt Parking, be sure and get a copy and have it in the airplane. It can be found on the EAA web site https://www.eaa.org/airventure/eaa-fly-in-flying-to-oshkosh/eaa-airventure-oshkosh-notam.

The most important item is to be able to hold 90 kts (104 mph) at 1800 ft altitude and land on a dot that's about 50' dia. Enjoy the flight and if things get hairy don't be afraid of going back and starting the approach again. Make sure on arrival you have enough fuel to fly the approach maybe some holding and/or diverting just to wait things out. I'm planning on stopping at New Lisbon 82C, it's about 70 mi west of OSH, for fuel before flying in, Note I/m coming from WA state.

Last year I arrived on Mon morning and the approach started at Endeavor Bridge VPENV which means 90kts for about 50 miles. Sunday evening the line was even longer it started about 40 miles south of VPENV.

Study the NOTAM and you'll be fine.

I'm a rookie, but did fly in to OSH last year. So, a tiny bit of experience. I parked in HBC. All went great!

I'm just not that familiar with the grounds- so, if I hold up a sign that says HBP, that will put me on the flightline with the other Thorps?

It would sure be great if there was some sort of meet-up ahead of the arrival, where a few Thorps could fly in as a "flight" and arrive, and park, together.

In any case, I'm sure it will all work out.

The volunteers that park the homebuilts are very good at getting like types together. We Thorps seem to get a similar piece of real estate each year.
I'll be staying at an Air BNB with my family 60 miles west at 63C (Adams/Friendship) near Castle Rock Lake. The plan is to fly in to KOSH a few days and then leave after the show.

There is also the option of using the "high pattern", which is 2300 feet at 135 knots. I've tried to use it three years in a row since I always seem to end up behind people who slow to 70 knots to "build spacing". However, the weather has never cooperated, but it's an option if you don't feel comfortable at 90 knots. The Thorp does just fine at 90 knots, but it can get interesting if you're behind a spam can doing 50 mph on final.

From the notam: "Holding Altitudes/Airspeeds: Maintain 90 knots (or maximum cruise speed if below 90 knots) and 1,800’ MSL. If unable, maintain 135 knots and 2,300’ MSL."

Last year (my first time flying into Osh,) I did a mass arrival with the Glasairs. (My other airplane is a Glasair.) But these weren't the fast Glasairs- these were the high wing Glastars and Sportsman "bush" planes. We did the lower alt and 90 knot arrival. I left some flaps in, and it was okay. But the landing was interesting- those high-wing Glasairs can stop on a dime! So, I had to swerve a bit to avoid one in front of me. I'll have to space it out better next time. I had wondered if the higher, faster arrival might be better. I think I'm okay with either.

Flyingfool is back!

Have had all sorts of “life” things happen over last couple years. Cancer, surgery, infections, family issues and two weddings and a high school graduation in the last year.

Finally getting life back on track and back into building.

I am already at Oshkosh volunteering. I am camped in camp Scholler corner of 47th and Lindbergh.

Look forward to getting back into the group.

Unfortunately my avionics upgrade is incomplete in N542F. Therefore, I will be driving in though still planning to participated in the various Thorp festivities!
