Thorp Air Command - T18.net

I desire to not install the rudder cables in the tunnel. The stabilator trim and flaps will be electric and want to make the center tunnel smaller so there is more room in the cockpit and desire to run the rudder cables outside of the seats also. Any information and/or drawings of this rudder pedal modification and the creation of a smaller rounder center tunnel? Thank you so much for any response. Tom

Thank you for looking. I see in Newsletter #73 page 17 a letter from a builder that states " I outboarded the rudder pedals like Bob Dials's drawing." so there is a drawing out there. Anybody have any info about Bob Dial? Thanks.

I believe that Gary Green had posted photos of his installation of outboard rudder cable on the forum. The search function is your friend

The builder of my plane, Fred Gindl was a good friend of Bob Dial's and he had a lot of input from Bob. My plane (Serial #558) has the outboard rudder cables. It follows the drawing fairly close except for the pulleys at the dash. My plane has a fairlead there instead of a pulley. The side of the plane from the firewall to the seat back is pretty much a straight run so a fairlead works well. From this fairlead, the cable is within a 1" x 2" enclosed cover running from the dash to the seat back. Just behind the seat back there is a pulley set. My baggage floor is raised up and this first pulley set is just under it. Hope this helps.

Guys,

I tried again and it looks like a couple got rotated 90 degrees. Starting from the front there is a shot of the cable from the pedal to the fairlead at the dash. the second is the cover over the cable. The third is a shot under the baggage area looking forward from the battery access hatch. The last is the shot of the cable going backwards towards the tail.
