Does anyone have in there 'stuff' a good type 1 dynafocal mount for a Thorp they would like to sell. I am asking for someone else. I will build him one if no one else has one available.

I have a dynamical mount that was used with an O-320 and was changed out when an IO-320 was installed. Not sure what a type 1 is.

The one you swapped out for the IO-320 is the Type 1. You most likely have a type 2 available.

Dynofocal Type 1 mounts are far more common than Dynofocal Type 2 mounts for Lycoming engines. The difference lays in the angle of the engine mount. On a Type 1 the angle is 30 degrees and on a Type 2 it is 180 degrees. The mount type is determined by the Lycoming engine case mount points. Most single engine applications for Lycoming engines (except for the early models) are Type 1. Lycoming engines made for a twin like a Twin Comanche used the Type 2.

Much older Lycoming designs like with the O-235 and O-290 as well as very early O-320 and O-360 used a Conical mount.

What is the model number of the engine your engine mount was attached to?

Good recap except it should read “18 degrees “ vs 180.

Alex

The previous engine was a O-320-E3D . I will take a picture of the mount tomorrow when I am at the hangar.

Regards,

Jim

Oops. Thanks Cubes. Yes, Type 2 is 18 degrees. I cannot find a place to edit my original post.
