FYI Thorpies,

Sometime back some folks were concerned and some encountered problems with their fuel system in that insufficient flow to the engine would or resulted in either engine quitting or reduced rpm prompting a pucker factor. I also remembered Bill Williams commenting on the low fuel flow he experienced during testing due to low level in the tank in the area of three to five gallons.

Richard Bentley while flying his newly acquired T-18 had a reduced rpm to about 1500 which he attributed to steep angle of attack (20

Now try it through the carb bowl drain making it flow through the needle valve openning.

Have you considered the forward motion of the plane causing a reverse flow action on the gravity feed.

Also, if you don't bother, then you need to leave the line open at the height where it enters the carb. If you have a line going down from there to the container, you're siphoning, not just gravity draining. Even a couple of inches makes a big difference.

Seems to me that "reverse flow action" mentioned would only occur when the plane is accelerating, but the three gallons or so worked in my test, like Bill Williams said.

Part 23 para 955 says "150% of takeoff consumption"
