Thorp Air Command - T18.net

I am looking for a good route and attachment scheme to run electric wiring out from cockpit to the wing tips. I want to fit the Nav lights and some kind of strobe like lights as mentioned on the forum (LED). I have #20 gauge wire from A/C Spruce available. I figure (3) strands of wire in a bundle.

I have the original wing design of the T-18. with flaps. Original T18 wing tips. Fiberglass. Want to avoid running wire to tail (rudder).

Airplane is built and flying. Don't want to keep airplane down for very long either.

Once I have the wire in & attached, I hope to have options to change or upgrade lights over time.

Appreciate experience of forum. I'm not asking for much but much is expected from experienced & helpful group.

Cheap and cheerful @ 400 jeters - less than Brazell spends every Friday in Parumpf - the plane I have now has sched 40 PVC sprinkler pipe run down the lightening holes and the wires in the pipe - the pipe is braced at the outer and inner ribs - my previous plane just ran the wires down the holes.

I have the Aveo lights on a Minimax experimental plane. I highly recommend them and they are very easy to wire up. The have the nav lights (red green and white) built in along with a very intense strobe. They also draw very little amps which makes them very friendly to your electrical system. Two self contained units...no strobe pack to find a place to mount.

I like the idea of a fully self contained unit ! No extra strobe driver. I would have got these if they were available at the time. The combo strobe system from Kuntzleman Electronics is what I have now and until they peter out they stay in place. I can't keep up with all the electron updates. Makes me dizzy ![:p]

I ran a thin wall (very thin) alum. tube down the rear of my wings out to the tips. The thin wall weighs less than the plastic tube unless you're using sked 200 plastic pipe. Ran the cockpit wire out thru the rear bottom of the floor under the seats.

How do you know where the Chicken Ranch is located Mr. Fraser ?

I have not seen these Aveo lights before. Very nice.
I suspect that running wire out to them is straight forward, along the lines Fraser describes, using plastic tubes thru wing ribs and attaching with brackets at the open areas.

Have to snake around the wing/fus intersection in near the flap drives. No problem.
