I ordered a Aymar/Demuth prop, back in 1989, because they advertised it as having a steel leading edge but when it arrive it had that plastic stuff. I called them on it and they claimed the one they delivered would be better for the Thorp. I asked about rain and they said to drop the RPM to 2000. It didn't help as the rain ate it up, including the epoxy I used to filled the holes later. I fiber glassed it and that didn't work, ether.
Taking a tip from the riveted copper leading edges of earlier wood props I applied JB Weld over the leading edge, on top of the fiberglass, to an inch back on both sides, sanded it down to about 1/16-3/32nds and notched it every 2 inches for flexing. Held up great for over 100 hours until the "mishap".
