Thanks a million....

I just got back from Lyncrest where I checked the sensors....well sort of.... They all reported accurate temp in the hangar (42f)...It would be a bit of a task to remove them (and I tried) Biggest problem is that it appears to require a tool that I don't have; a thin walled 1/2" deep socket with a slot cut in the side to pass the wire from the sensor.

Instead I had a look at the airflow and despite the fact they have been there for 260 hrs, I removed the landing lights from the cowl intakes. I couldn't test fly due the Wx (snow and low ceilings) but hope that's the answer.

Tim - ya know, looking at your baffling, it appears there is nothing containing the air from escaping around the front area around the starter/ring gear - I wonder whether you are getting enough pressure in the upper cowl area to force the air from the top down through the cylinder fins and hence cooling the heads.

Look again senior' ... That style of baffling contains the air from below. The dam is the vertical piece that extends to the lower half of the cowl.

Yeah, was looking at that.....but still curious as to the configuration and how the system pressurizes vs what I am used to seeing - Tim has a much higher volume of air in his containment/pressure area and more potential for leakage hence reducing the pressure - For all I know, it may be a better config than what I have.......having said that, my engine runs too cool with the new baffling - last night I put duct tape over my oil cooler, as the daytime highs are now getting close to a cool 70 deg F.....that's 20 deg C and still thong weather for you loons...:).

Tim's setup is pretty standard .. N51863 had that style when we had the 0-320. We went to the "ramp" style for drag reduction. If you look at most spam cans they have the same style as Tim and several others. I believe John evens baffles are set up like this too.

That is a piss poor baffle system. Without baffles blocking the cylinders and a dam around the flywheel the air is staying stagnet around the engine and not going up and over and through the cylinders.
