That sounds like a good spot, did you just bolt to the skin or did you back it up a bit Rich? Gloria says thats her storage space and that I had better watch how much of that space I take up(shes a good travel companion and very perty so I try not to ruffel her feathers)I will get the crazy thing mounted. Been flying for 4 yrs without it guess Im just a outlaw at heart, or maybe Patriot is a better word, I think there both one in the same nowdays........Dan

Mine is installed on the pilot side wall of the baggage compartment. It has to be mounted correctly so it will function in a crash, obviously. The antennae sticks up thru a grommet on the turtle deck.

A reinforcment bracket mounted under the turtle deck behind the bagage compartment. That's how it was when I bought the airplane.

As I fly solo 98% of the time I try to distribute my load to the right side of the AC...ELT, tool kit , tie downs , etc. under the right seat. Yep , the ELT has the arrow facing foward. ??? BOOM !

Mine (a Pointer 3000) is mounted on the center tunnel, in the front of the baggage compartment. It's one of those ELT's that you can remove, put on the whip antenna, and carry with you as you walk out from the accident site.... :P So I guess the idea was to have it easy to access so it can be removed.

Let me back up here...how did you get signed off without an ELT ? Not that I am complaining as I like the fact I can pull out my ELT , plug in my headset and order Chinese ! 8)

The ELT is not required whilst doing the 40 hr test period in a designated area, at least 4 years ago this was the case. Now days I would not be surprised if the requirement called for 4of them each one being able to transmit to different countries, in 12 different languages and 12different frenquincies. I just never bothered with it........Dan

I got an AK-450, but I got this one cause I figger it will be the easiest to gut out, It is 1# 14oz of dead weight, I figger I can gut it out and it will be way below 1# if its just a shell(just kidding) I attempted the two can senario, but the spool I had the string on wouldnt let it out fast enough and the string would break. So there I was, tryin to find a place to land and tie the two ends back together, somtimes I couldnt land very close to where the broken string was so I had to walk all the whilst pulling string from the rearend of the plane so I could knot the two back together. I think the knots was causing some interference and it didnt work that well so I abandoned that Idea. This turned out to be quite troublesome so I would not recommend it I see that you thought of it too the same as I. Guess I will just install the 450, test it and leave it alone, I had just simply forgot that I didnt have an ELT. I will tell you the story of the 4 wing mounted paint ball guns later, thats a good one, well I thought it was but there are a few that might differ with me a bit.......Dan
